Engine
The awe-inspiring power delivered by the M1-derived 998cc crossplane four-cylinder DOHC, four-valve engine, makes the R1 an ideal track weapon.

Linear throttle response is delivered by Yamaha’s Chip Controlled Intake system (YCC-I) that electronically adjusts the length of the inlet manifold to match engine RPM.

Optimum engine performance is achieved with a high-compression cylinder head, pent proof combustion chambers, and large-diameter intake and exhaust valves. Lightweight yet strong titanium conrods hold forged aluminium pistons.

Frame
Race-bred technology can also be found in the compact aluminium Deltabox frame, long upward-truss type swingarm and magnesium sub frame.

Suspension
The fully adjustable race-bred 43mm KYB fork features a large-diameter 25mm front axle providing a planted feel and excellent feedback from the front end. The rear KYB monoshock suspension is also fully adjustable.

Wheels
Unsprung weight is minimised and steering response enhanced by the 17-inch magnesium wheels - the first to be fitted to a mass-production model as standard.

Brakes
The twin radial mounted four-piston front calipers, and two-piston rear caliper feature ABS and Yamaha’s Unified Brake System (UBS). Operating the front brake also generates corresponding brake pressure at the rear. The distribution of braking forces is determined by information provided by the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU).

Electronics
The four switchable engine maps make use of the six-axis IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) which dynamically measures G-forces as well as the pitch, roll and yaw of the motorcycle. Information from the MotoGP-style technology controls the lean-angle ABS, Traction Control (TCS), Slide Control (SCS) Lift Control (LIF) and Launch Control (LCS) systems on the YZF-R1.

The race-bred feel is further enhanced by the Quick-Shift System (QSS) providing clutchless gear changes, both up and down. The large TFT instrument panel offers a choice of Street and Track modes with an easy-to-use and understand interface between rider and the adjustable electronic systems.
