Evans Proves Consistent At Echo Valley

Serco Yamaha’s MX2 rookie, Mitch Evans, has again landed on the podium at round nine of the MX Nationals, taking third place for the round and consolidated his third place in the championship with one round remaining.
Evans again showed blistering speed in both motos as he charged his way through the pack. A poor start in race one saw the north Queenslander floundering outside the top 10 on lap one but he piled on the pressure the entire length of the 30-minute moto to claw his way to third place by the time the chequered flag was shown.

A better start in moto two had in right in the thick of the battle with all three championship contenders at the pointy end. Unfortunately, Evans used up too much energy in race one and the tank was nearing empty in the final stages of race two where he again finished third.

He now sits 14 points away from the championship lead and only 10 points away from second place with the final round at Coolum always through up plenty of twists and turns in the championship chase.

“While I’m a little disappointed with my day, I know this isn’t over yet and the hard work myself and the team have been putting in will be rewarded,” Evans explains.

“My start in the first one really let me down and because I was so far back on the opening lap I had to work over time to get myself back in the race. I used by a lot of energy doing that and just felt a bit flat for race two.

“But being on the podium is good and the last round is going to be exciting. I really have nothing to lose and it will be Wil and Egan with all the pressure. I plan on taking a few days to recuperate from the weekend and come out fresh and ready to go at Coolum,” Evans warns.

The 10th and final round of the championship will be held this weekend at the Coolum Pines circuit on the Sunshine Coast. Yamaha have already wrapped up the MX1 and MXD championships and are gunning for a clean sweep with the MX2 crown on a knife’s edge.

There will be racing on both Saturday and Sunday with the headline MX1 and MX2 classes showing casing Australia’s best motocross talent.
