It was an impressive performance by bLU cRU 300 Racing’s Zac Levy as he dominated an action-packed and thrilling weekend of racing on his Yamaha YZF-R3 at round two of the Australian Superbike Championship, held at Wakefield Park in NSW.He was ably supported by team mates, Tom Bramich and Hunter Ford who both turned in good rides in trying conditions as wind swept across the Wakefield circuit making life difficult for the rides.
Contesting the Supersport 300cc class, Levy finished the weekend with the round win on the back of his 2-1-1 results over two days of racing. His only blemish was in race one when he was pipped at the post by team mate, Hunter Ford, who had a .008 margin on him as they flashed across the finish line.
He was flawless in the two remaining races and deserved his round victory.
“Its been a solid three days for the bLU cRU team and I here at Wakefield Park,” Levy begins. “I just tried to ride smart all weekend and I’m so happy how it turned out.
“The wind was difficult to deal with and Phillip Island is usually where we have the strongest winds, but today was definitely worse as it was super strong and blowing dirt and dust across the track.
“I’m now just eight points out of the series lead and we have plenty of racing to go so we need to keep working hard,” he ends.
Tom Bramich charged home to third place on the podium with 7-2-3 results. Bramich admitted that he and team started off the weekend thinking that they were heading in the right direction, however, the Victorian rider got to a point where he was unable to go any faster which left him having to re-think what he was doing.
“It’s been a tough weekend, but we got there in the end,” said Bramich at the conclusion of the last race. “Thanks to my crew and the bLU cRU 300 team we were able to get on the podium. We’ll regroup and turn our attention to the next round at The Bend, which should be a good as it will be an even playing field as no one has tested there, yet.”
Bramich now sits third in the points just five away from the team mate, Levy and 13 away from the series leader.
Hunter Ford started out his weekend in fine style with a win in the first race and then a fourth in race two in some of the closest racing of the weekend but it all came undone in race three when he went down on the warm up lap and was unable to compete. It was a bitter end after such a promising build up over the weekend.
All three riders also competed in the Yamaha R3 Cup, with Zac Levy continuing his winning ways winning all three races. Hunter Ford proved consistent to take second place while this time it was Tom Bramich who came from his bike in the second race to ruin any chance he had of a podium finish. He rounded his day out in ninth place with 6-DNF-4 results.
The Australian Supersport 300 Championship now heads to The Bend Motorsport Park on 19-22 April, while the next round of the YMF R3 Cup will take place at Queensland’s Morgan Park Raceway on 17-19 August.
