Tanti Takes Podium at Albury Pro MX

After a disappointing final race at the Mackay round of the championship, Aaron Tanti and his CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team bounced back to take a well-earned third place finish after a gruelling round in near perfect conditions.

The Albury circuit proved to be far more challenging than it looks with long ruts that snaked their way around the full length of the circuit. The weekend also so a three-race format for the MX1 division with the traditional 30 mins moto to start the day, then followed up with two, fifteen-minute races during the afternoon to determine the winner.

Tanti qualified well to take P1 but then slipped one spot in Superpole. Moto one saw him with a good start and trying to move forward before a rider went down in front of him leaving him no place to go and he went down himself, twisting his bike in the process. He gathered himself and his bike and returned to racing to claw his way back to fifth place but knowing he would need to ride better in the afternoon motos.

Come the back-to-back motos and Tanti was back in full stride. He charged to second place finish in leg one and now with some confidence back, he was determined to finish the day on a strong note. Leg two and he locked into combat with race leader, Dean Ferris. The pair swapped positions during the race with Tanti taking the lead at the midway point, but he was unable to hold it until the finish and crossed the line in second place. His 5-2-2 results gave him third for the day and he sits second in the championship.

“Today was good, just that crash in moto one made it tough as I was up front and when I went down, it bent the front of my bike a bit and it’s hard to ride long, fast ruts when things are bent up so I could only salvage a fifth.” Tanti begins. 

“Because its rutty and tight, it is easy to over-ride it on a 450 so once I settled down, it was a bit easier to generate the pace rather than trying to kill the track.

“We are well-placed in the championship, just one point from the lead but the next few rounds are important to really get some momentum and rack up some race wins if we are to win it this year.

“Thank you to the CDR Yamaha team and our sponsors, despite Luke not racing, they haven’t cut any corners and it was all hands on deck to help me this weekend and I appreciate their support,” Tanti said.

Gilman in South Australia host round four of the championship at the end of the month and its marks the halfway stage of a very tight championship battle in the MX1 division with four riders well within striking distance to secure the 2022 title.
