Ups and Downs for WBR Yamaha

It was a weekend of mixed emotions for the Monster Energy WBR Yamaha team with two riders standing on the podium and another finishing his ProMX campaign with a broken collar bone.
The Echo Valley circuit in Toowoomba again produced a challenging and technical track after 30mm of rain fell on the venue Saturday afternoon and evening. While Sunday morning dawned all clear, the damage was done, and the circuit was wet, and conditions were as tough as any faced this year.

It was a welcome return to form for Madi Simpson who finished the day in second place in the WMX class. Simpson had shown flashes of good form so far in 2025 but bounced back to her best at Toowoomba and finished the day with 2-2 results and showed she had the pace to run with the fastest girls in Australia.

Her podium position now puts her in fourth place of the WMXC championship and with the final round this weekend at QMP, at track she has raced well in the past, a championship podium isn’t out of the question.

“It was good to ride well on the weekend and get a decent result for myself and the team,” Simpson offers. “The first two rounds didn’t go well, so it was important I get back on track with a good result today and finish the season strongly.

“I’m now in fourth and just 10 points from third, so with hopefully I can keep the momentum going from the weekend and get on the podium for both the round and the championship next weekend.”

It was also a welcome return to the podium for Koby Hantis. Hantis has had a season to forget in 2025 with injury after injury, but he seems to be putting that behind him and finding some form for the final rounds.

Hantis finished the day with 3-3 results to take third for the day and his first podium of the year. While still not back to his best, it was a confidence building weekend for him and one that could kick start a successful back half of the year.

“This has been a long time coming,” Hantis said as he mounts the podium for the first time in 2025. “I started the year with a shoulder injury and just as I was starting to ride well, I hurt it again and was forced to miss two rounds, so it’s been a tough championship for me.

“But, I was able to put together two decent races on the weekend and make some improvements in my riding and fitness.

“It was also good for the team as they have stuck behind me all year even when I haven’t been able to get on the track, so thanks to them for all their support,” Hantis ends.

Unfortunately, the weekend wasn’t as kind to Ky Woods. Woods came into round seven in second place in the MX3 class and looking to make some inroads into the championship leader.

That came to an abrupt halt in moto one on Sunday when he launched from a jump and was ejected through the front of the bike. He landed heavily and tumbled down the hill as his bike flipped end for end. When he finally came to a stop, and the first aid people arrived, they diagnosed a broken collar bone that will see him sit out the final round.

It was a disappointing way for Woods to end his championship has he had been in right in the heat of the battle for the MX3 crown.

“I’m just so disappointed. The year started out so well, but the last couple of months have been hard as I have had to deal with some injuries and things haven’t gone my way.

“I was fighting it a bit today even before the crash and just couldn’t get a flow going on the track and then I just got a kick as I took off one of those jumps in the middle of the track and it sent me over the bars.

“The team have been great and worked so hard. I feel I have let them down. Now my goal is to get healthy and come back for supercross better than ever and get them a championship,” Woods said.

The eighth and final round of the ProMX happens this weekend at Queensland Moto Park. That’s a quick turnaround for the teams and with the mud of Toowoomba still to be cleaned, it’s a big week for the mechanics to get everything in order before rolling into QMP on Friday.
