What is the defect?
During assembly of the R-Max, if the main wire harness is not routed correctly (in the area of the Passenger Floorboard) the Passenger Floor Board may become misaligned. An assembly modification (drilling) may have been performed on some units to correct this misalignment, resulting in the inadvertent damage of the Fuel Tank.
What are the hazards?
If the Fuel Tank is damaged, it could result in fuel weeping from the affected area. If fuel leaks in the presence of an ignition source this may cause a fire, increasing the risk of serious injury or death to vehicle occupants.
What should customers do?
To correct this defect, Yamaha is initiating a Factory Modification Campaign, whereby affected models must have the fuel tank inspected, where necessary, the fuel tank will be replaced.
