Cody Dyce was unstoppable on the weekend
Liam Andrews impressed in his first hit out for Vic YJR

Dyce and Andrews Star for Vic YJR

24 Mar 2015

The Victoria Yamaha Junior Racing duo of Cody Dyce and Liam Andrews took the opening round of the Victoria Junior Motocross Championships by storm with Dyce taking two dominate class wins and Andrews a fifth.

The Outtrim track was in great shape all weekend and competitors were greeted with glorious sunshine for the opening round of the series. For 2015, Cody Dyce is back to depend his 125 championship as well as do battle on his YZ250F while new recruit, Liam Andrews took on the 85cc duties for the team on a YZ85BW.

Saturday’s program had Cody lining up on his YZ250F. His first of three races didn't start off great with a bad pick of the gate and an average start around 10th place. It didn't take him long to slice through the pack getting all the way to second and gaining quickly on first place but he ran out of time and had to settle for second.

Races two and three were all Cody as he executed two perfect holeshots and didn't put a foot wrong on the difficult and rutted track to finish the day with 2-1-1 results.

Sunday was time for Cody to bring out his beloved YZ125 and Liam's turn to wring out his YZ85.

Liam is one of the youngest riders in the strong field of 12-15 year old BW 85 class. He was super nervous to start the day but he soon settled into a great first race meeting on the bigger 85 with no major mistakes or spills.

His results of 5-6-7 were very consistent with good starts in each race nearly pulling a nice holeshot in the final moto. The track was very technical with huge ruts greeting the riders at each corner proved a tough challenge for an 85 rider.

"I was so nervous coming into today. In practice I was super tight at first but after a few laps I found my groove. I was happy with my starts and the way I rode but I really need to get stronger as I got pretty tired with a few laps to go in each race. Overall a good weekend with such tough competition, Andrews offers."

Cody's day on his 125 was near perfect. Three strong rides to win all motos quiet comfortably with his worst start had him rounding the first corner in 2nd. No mistakes at all and near flawless display of riding proved too hard to beat on this day.

"What a weekend? I had so much fun,” Dyce said. I've really been working my tail off over summer trying to improve all parts of my racing, even smoking a rear tyre Friday night practicing my concrete starts which really made difference with great starts all weekend. My Bikes were amazing all as well," Dyce said.

Team Manager, Cameron Taylor was happy with the way his riders started the championship and looks forward to a good year with both riders.

“It was a great way to start 2015. Obviously Cody rode just brilliant all weekend, it's so cool to see him develop into such a complete racer. Was proud of Liam's effort, as he rode his heart out all day with a top 5 result to reward him. He will get stronger every round for sure," Taylor explains.
