Team Yamaha takes out Freshwater Fishing Masters

5 Mar 2010

Team Yamaha has emerged from the pack to take out the 2009/2010 Freshwater Fishing Masters at the last round of the competition at Lake Mulwala on the 28th of February 2010. The Team headed up by Yamaha stalwart Dan Power and co pilot Dave Shelton finally pulled off a victory that had been so close in past years.

The Freshwater Fishing Masters is an exclusive invitational event that targets native freshwater species of fish over three rounds at different locations. Each round comprises of around 20 to 30 two person teams chasing a targeted species. The competition adheres to a strict catch and release policy whereby all fish caught must be released in good health in order to be eligible for points.

Defending champions and tournament specialists Dave and Gaye Silva from Team Lowrance went into the last round with a 125 point advantage over the boys from Team Yamaha in second.

“It was always going to be a tough assignment,” said Dan Power. “We were pleased with our results from the first two rounds but Dave and Gaye from team Lowrance were going to be hard to catch in the final. We even witnessed them land a big cod early in the day that would have put them well ahead of our score.”

The pressure was on and the two teams duelled fish for fish until the final seconds of the competition but when the water settled Team Yamaha came home to clinch the win by just 14 points. The points difference equates to just 14mm difference in the total length of the thirty scoring fish caught over the three events, an incredibly close score.

Dan Power also took out “Champion Angler” for the tournament. A great achievement considering the calibre of anglers participating at the event.

Dan’s 400 Quintrex Hornet powered by a Yamaha F40 performed faultlessly. Not surprising seeing as Dan is one of Yamaha Motor Australia’s most respected technicians and heads up Yamaha’s Technical Academy, the division which is responsible for training all Yamaha marine technicians Australia wide.

The F40F is a great motor for this kind of fishing. It’s quiet and economical but has the extra punch needed to cover the ground in these inland waterways. The F40F features the very latest ECM controlled multi point fuel injection system, which precisely adjusts the fuel/ air mixture and ignition timing according to speed and load to ensure smooth and efficient running. The result is superb overall performance that only a Yamaha can deliver.

Team Yamaha’s next big competition is the Golden Classic at Lake Windermere in Mudgee this coming spring and with their form running hot they’re sure to challenge for the podium once again.
